Apple’s M2 Max chip, which will succeed the current M1 Max, has been spotted in leaked benchmarks giving us an idea of how much faster the next-gen variant might be.
As Wccftech reports, this comes in the form of Geekbench results picked up by Benchleaks on Twitter, which as always with leaks, we should be suitably cautious around.
Apple M2 Maxhttps://t.co/aXcjUIB9bGhttps://t.co/8whb0JpWOINovember 30, 2022
See more
In Geekbench, the M2 Max racked up a tally of 1,889 points for single-core, and in multi-core pushed ahead to 14,586.
Comparing that to the current M1 Max, which hits about 1,750 and 12,200 respectively, meaning that the M2 Max is shaping up to be around 8% quicker for single-core, and 20% more speedy in terms of multi-core performance.
Analysis: A tidy potential performance boost
It should be no real surprise that the M2 Max takes apparent further strides forward with multi-core performance, given that this chip runs with 12-cores (as shown in the Geekbench spec details here, and widely rumored previously), rather than the 10-cores the M1 Max sports. Two more cores should obviously make a fair bit of difference in multi-core tasks, of course.
Indeed, some folks might argue that they’d expect a little more from the next-gen chip than a 20% multi-core increase, but to us, this seems like a solid enough generational leap. Furthermore, remember this is still relatively early days for testing the M2 Max, and by the time the SoC is actually out there in Apple’s laptops, it’ll doubtless be a bit more honed performance-wise.
We shouldn’t get carried away with our expectations, though, either way, based on an early leaked benchmark. As ever, one single metric is far from the full picture of performance, and the M2 Max will require a broader raft of tests before any conclusions are drawn when it does actually turn up.
One of Intel’s incoming laptop processors for Raptor Lake has been spotted in a benchmark, and it beefs up the core count compared to its Alder Lake predecessor.
First off, arm yourself with a skeptical attitude as always around these kind of leaks, but the mobile CPU in question is the Core i7-1370P which is the successor to the Core i7-1270P. (It’s part of Intel’s low-power range, which the ‘P’ denotes).
Going by the benchmark which appeared on Geekbench, as surfaced by BenchLeaks on Twitter (via Tom’s Hardware), the Core i7-1370P will have six performance cores and eight efficiency cores, making for a total of 14-cores (and 20-threads, as only the performance cores use hyper-threading).
That’s notable because the 1270P has 12-cores in total, so with Raptor Lake, Intel is upping the core count to 14 which is a nice boost for the new generation of mobile processors.
The Core i7-1370P – which was benchmarked inside a Dynabook laptop, incidentally – is shown boosting to 5GHz, with a base clock of 1.9GHz.
As for the actual result attained by the Raptor Lake CPU, it managed 1,655 for single-core in Geekbench, and 10,184 in multi-core testing. As Tom’s points out, this compares favorably to the Core i7-1270P, which over an average of a dozen results, pitched in at around 1,590 for single-core and 7,090 for multi-core.
Analysis: Raptor Lake mobile leaks seem increasingly promising
That means the Core i7-1370P is a bit nippier for single-core workloads, at around 4% quicker, but where it really shines compared to its predecessor is in multi-core, where it is almost 45% quicker in Geekbench. Those two extra cores really help the cause of speedy performance in multi-core tasks, as you’d expect, and the architectural improvements from Raptor Lake will drive further gains. Plus the beefed up spec elsewhere won’t hurt either, such as an apparent 200MHz faster boost speed.
Nevertheless, before we get carried away, this is just a single benchmark result, and a leaked one at that. But the promise held by the Core i7-1370P is clear enough, certainly, and as part of the low-power range, Intel should keep this one nice and efficient (with TDP likely to be around 25W to 30W; the 1270P is a 28W part).
The potential performance from these mobile CPUs could be eye-opening, then, across the entire line-up, and at least with the low-power models, you’re also not going to be fretting on the battery front (how that HX flagship will drain the battery is a point of concern, naturally).

We love the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon series, and the latest Gen 10 model is no exception. It's a timeless design that Lenovo has subtly iterated on over the years, making for a stellar professional laptop for those who prefer Windows over macOS or Chrome OS. Even better, it's $1,289 down from $2,879 on Lenovo's website - a whopping discount.
That's just one model on sale for Black Friday, too: there are a variety of configurations, all heavily discounted at better-than-half-price. The biggest reduction is the high-end $4,169 model, which has had a staggering $2,255.43 slashed off the retail price to bring it down to $1,913.57.
Over in the UK, the discounts aren't quite as aggressive, but you can still save as much as a third on select models. We found a version closely matching the deal above, which is down 32% from £2,230 to £1,500 - a seriously good deal.
Regardless of region, anyone looking for a new professional laptop can look no further: this is a great deal on a great device. It's the perfect office companion for anyone who wants a lightweight, super-fast laptop but doesn't want to buy a MacBook or Chromebook.

In our Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 review, we praised this lightweight laptop's powerful processor, vibrant screen, and classic design. We stand by all that, and we also stand by our main point of criticism: that as Windows ultrabooks go, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon is too darn expensive.
Enter Black Friday, then, and this laptop is suddenly looking like a phenomenal deal. While the amount of RAM and storage space varies between models, all of the Gen 10 configurations come rocking 12th-gen Intel Core CPUs, which leverage a unique new form of processor microarchitecture to run your laptop's background processes on dedicated 'efficiency cores' while beefier 'performance cores' handle whatever software you're primarily using.
This provided a huge performance uptick compared to the previous 11th-gen Intel processors, while also reducing heat buildup and power draw when you're not running any demanding software. It's just one of the reasons why the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 is an incredibly powerful productivity tool.

Kindle Paperwhite:was £129.99 now £94.99 at Amazon The latest Kindle Paperwhite is down to its lowest-ever price in Amazon's Black Friday sale today – with a record-breaking deal that beats the previous lowest price by a whole £5. This incredibly handy premium e-reader is packed with features to suit all avid readers, including a 10-week battery life, a glare-free 6.8-inch screen, adjustable warm light, and enough storage space for thousands of books.View Deal
Let me start by saying that I've been using Amazon Kindle e-readers since the second edition (it had cute, physical buttons on the side to turn pages). Since then, I've owned multiple Kindles and my current one has been in my hands for at least four years. In other words, I am a user and a fan.
None of that makes my observations any less valid. If anything, I think it adds credence to all the reasons why I think the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite sits in the sweet spot between affordability and delight that makes for a near-perfect Black Friday Deals purchase.
Purpose-built
In a world where every portable device seeks to do as much as possible, where watches take our blood pressure, and smartphones can sense a car crash, the Amazon Kindle line of e-readers do exactly one thing: they're designed for reading.
That's kind of obvious, but it's meant that every improvement since the earliest Kindles has been to enhance the reading experience and virtually nothing else. The Paperwhite's 300ppi screen is designed for letter and reading clarity. Plus, it's called "Paperwhite" because the E Ink screen has been refined to offer as close to a white background as possible on an electronic ink display (granted, you can also read in dark mode which puts "white" text on a black background).
The 8GB of storage space might not seem like a lot, but e-reader files are incredibly small. You can fit thousands of books and magazines (even black and white graphic novels) on a single Kindle Paperwhite. Again, the system is built for reading and you'll never need more space for, say, video or photo files.
Easy to use
Amazon Kindles are generally simple devices. Almost the entire face is made up of a 6.7-inch display. There's only one button along the bottom edge for power and sleep. A touch-screen means that the gesture you used to turn pages on physical books works just as well on a Kindle Paperwhite.
There are numerous screen controls to improve and adjust your reading experience including reducing and enlarging font size with a pinch and zoom gesture (what's easier than that?), and a slider for raising and lowing the backlight.
Basically, you can hand a Kindle Paperwhite to even the most tech-averse person and they'll figure out how to use it in no time.
No distractions
Spend five minutes reading on your iPhone, iPad, or Galaxy S22 and you will be interrupted at least a few times by a notification or even a pop-up on, say, the web page where you're trying to dig into that long read.
There are no such interruptions on a Kindle Paperwhite. You can read for hours without a single text message or alert, save the person next to you who gently nudges you out of your reading trance.
Lightweight and portable
Fun fact: even though the Kindle Paperwhite is considerably larger than Apple's iPhone 14 Pro, it weighs a gram less (205g vs. 206g). It's also so slim – just 8.1mm – that the Kindle Paperwhite can fit in any bag, coat pocket, or even your back pocket.
I usually carry mine everywhere in my backpack. And when there's no cell-or Internet service, I can pull out the Kindle, which doesn't need an Internet connection unless you're browsing for or downloading a book, and start reading.
Durable
While the Kindle has a glass-covered screen, it's not prone to breakage. I've dropped and even tossed my Kindle and the display barely has a scratch. The case is also virtually drop-proof.
Better yet, all these on-sale Kindle Paperwhites are waterproof, which makes them perfect beach and pool companions.
Incredible battery life
I challenge you to find another gadget category that can offer weeks of battery life per charge. The Kindle Paperwhite can last up to 10 weeks on a charge. Long-term use of the built-in light will cut down that time, but it's still more than fair to expect at least a few weeks of reading per charge.
The point here is that, when you want to read, the Kindle is almost always ready, It's one of my favorite things about the device.
Read for free
Remember libraries? I haven't stepped into one in years, but I use my local library all the time. In the US, we have the Libby app, which lets you log into your local library and then check out e-books just as you would physical books.
This is how I read everything – even best-sellers – for free on my Kindle Paperwhite. There is one caveat here, though. Like a normal library book, your checkout will expire after 14 days. The good news is that, if you don't close the book you can keep reading until you're finished.
There are, obviously, a lot of other portable gadget deals in our Black Friday Deals roundup. Check it out before they're all gone.
Intel’s upcoming Raptor Lake laptop CPUs have been leaked, and the line-up looks pretty enticing, indeed.
This comes from regular hardware leaker Raichu on Twitter (as flagged up by Wccftech), who provided full specs for the range of HX chips, starting with the Core i9-13900HX with 8 performance cores, 16 efficiency cores, and a boost of up to 5.4GHz (the base clock is 3.9GHz).
i9-13900HX 8P16E max 5.4/3.9i7-13700HX 8P8E max 5.0/3.7i7-13650HX 6P8E max 4.9/3.6i5-13500HX 6P8E max 4.7/3.5i5-13450HX 6P4E max 4.6/3.4Max DRAM support up to DDR5-5600/DDR4-3200(Part SKU just 4800).DRAM/Freq/Ring/PL OCNovember 14, 2022
See more
Next up, we have the Core i7-13700HX – remember, take all these with a fistful of seasoning, as ever with the rumor mill – which supposedly runs with 8 performance plus 8 efficiency cores, and boosts up to 5GHz (3.7GHz base clock).
A slight step down from that is the Core i7-13650HX processor which drops to 6 performance cores (keeping 8 efficiency ones), with boost of up to 4.9GHz (and a 3.6GHz base clock).
Then there’s the Core i5-13500HX which keeps the same core count as the 13650HX but drops that boost to 4.7GHz (3.5GHz base). And finally, Raichu tells us that there’s a Core i5-13450HX with 6 performance cores plus 4 efficiency cores, and a boost of up to 4.6GHz (and a base clock of 3.4GHz).
Analysis: Raptor ready to pounce
That Raptor Lake HX flagship looks something quite special, with no fewer than 24-cores (8 performance cores) and being capable of boost of up to 5.4GHz. It’s a big step up from Alder Lake laptop chips and, along with those extra cores and faster clock speeds, you can also count on bigger cache sizes for the Raptor Lake silicon. On top of that, better overclocking is promised with 13th-gen laptop chips, so it’s fair to say they’re waiting in the wings to make quite an impact.
When can we expect Team Blue to launch these mobile processors? Intel has said we’ll witness their appearance before 2022 is out but, realistically, these chips will be in more laptops come early 2023 (doubtless with some potent pairings alongside RTX 40 series laptop GPUs).
Perhaps the worry here is not performance, which appears to be present in abundance, but rather how these HX chips may hit battery longevity. That’s where AMD could score a key victory in terms of better efficiency with Zen 4 laptop silicon when it arrives – but exactly when that’ll be, we’re not sure. But we do know Raptor Lake mobile chips will be out in full force before AMD comes to market, and as mentioned, 13th-gen laptop silicon is not far away now. Exciting times, indeed.

The iPad 10.9 (2022) is one of the best tablets you can buy, whether you’re looking specifically at iPads or open to any option on the market. This might be a basic model from Apple, yet its specs and features feel anything but rudimentary. It’s not perfect, however, leaving plenty of room for the new iPad 2023 to improve upon it.
That’s expected to be the successor to the iPad 10.9 (2022), and based on our experience with Apple’s current model, we’ve come up with a list of things we want from this next baseline tablet.
We’ll also be filling out this article with news and leaks, just as soon as any start emerging – already though, you’ll find some educated guesses on the release date and certain other details of the new iPad 2023.
Cut to the chase
What is it? The next entry-level iPad
When it it out? Probably September or October 2023
How much will it cost? Possibly around $449 / £499 / AU$749
New iPad 2023 release date and price
While there’s no news yet on when the iPad 2023 might launch, we can take a good guess, as in recent years, Apple has announced new entries in this line in either September or October.
In fact, other than the latest model, it’s done so in September. So, September 2023 is our best guess for the launch of the new iPad 2023 – probably alongside the iPhone 15. However, there’s a fair chance we’ll instead see it in October 2023; one or other of those months seems very likely, regardless.
We don’t know what the iPad 2023 will cost, but it may have a similar starting price to the iPad 10.9 (2022), which starts at $449 / £499 / AU$749. Then again, that tablet cost more than its predecessor, so it’s possible Apple will push the price up again.
New iPad 2023 news and leaks
There aren’t any leaks about the iPad 2023 yet, but we can guess some things. For one, given that Apple upped the screen size and changed the design for the iPad 10.9 (2022), we’d expect both of those things to stay the same for the next model; meaning a 10.9-inch screen and an iPad Air-like design both being likely.
However, it will almost certainly have a new chipset. Or at least a newer one – the current iPad uses Apple's existing A14 Bionic, also seen in the iPhone 12 line and the 2020 fourth-generation iPad Air, so the next model will likely get an upgrade to, at least, the A15 Bionic found in the iPhone 13.
What we want to see
As good as the iPad 10.9 (2022) is, it could always be better, so we hope the new iPad 2023 includes some of the following changes and upgrades.
1. Apple Pencil 2 support
One of the more unusual aspects of the iPad 10.9 (2022) is that it supports the original Apple Pencil rather than the newer Apple Pencil 2. That’s despite switching to a USB-C port, which means you can’t even charge the Apple Pencil (which charges via Lightning) without an adapter.
There are reasons for this decision, but it seems like a mistake overall, and one we hope Apple will fix for the next model.
2. A lower price, or at least no price rises
Apple pushed the price up significantly for the iPad 10.9 (2022), compared to its predecessor, so for the next model we’d ideally like to see the price fall, given that this is the company’s cheapest line of tablets. At the very least, though, we don’t want it to rise any higher.
3. A less reflective screen
While we were largely happy with the iPad 10.9 (2022)’s screen, one issue we found in our review was that the lack of an anti-reflective coating meant there could be quite a lot of reflections in it, particularly when used outside.
We don’t expect Apple to switch to a mini-LED or OLED screen, or pack in more pixels for the new iPad 2023, but we’d love to at least be able to comfortably use it outdoors, so hopefully this model will have that coating.
4. More camera modes
Cameras are rarely a priority for tablets, and such is the case with the iPad 10.9 (2022). We’re largely fine with that, but the absence of both Portrait mode and Cinematic mode are noticeable and disappointing, so we’d like to see them included for the new iPad 2023.
5. Improved battery life
The iPad 10.9 (2022) actually has quite reasonable battery life, with our reviewer managing around 8-10 hours of constant use. That’s in the same ballpark as most other iPads, but when you consider that the MacBook Air (M2, 2022) lasted over 16 hours in our tests, we think Apple can do better, given that a tablet isn’t a million miles from a laptop.
Even an extra couple of hours would make all the difference, so we hope that’s a focus for Apple with the next model, as it could help ensure the iPad 2023's place among the best iPads.

The very first set of Black Friday deals at Walmart comes with a cracking super-cheap Chromebook that's one of the best laptop deals we've seen all year.
You can now get an HP Chromebook 11 for $79 (was $98) at Walmart. That's the lowest price yet and a bargain for those on a tight budget who need a very basic but long-lasting machine for simple school tasks or everyday browsing.
The last time we saw this Chromebook reduced in a previous sale it fell to $99, so it's a terrific saving if you want to get ahead of this year's Black Friday deals.

All the big retailers get stuck in to the January sales. Let's take a look at the big hitters below and what you can nab from each.
The Amazon January sales are a great place to start. Amazon has been on a discounting rampage since mid-November and it certainly won't be slowing down any time soon – you can expect the deals to keep rolling in well into January.
Currys impressed us in the January sales last year, and more recently on Black Friday. This year we're expecting big discounts on TVs, laptops, gaming consoles, Dyson cordless vacuum cleaners, kitchen electricals and more – keep an eye out for the TV ads showing off the best ones too.
Very.co.uk has been a regular on our deals pages throughout the year and we expect it to have tempting offers on TVs, laptops and consoles once again along with other gadgets. Very is also a top fashion, home and beauty item retailer too so expect a wide gamut of deals.
AO is one of our go-to retailers when we're scouring the net for cheap TV deals or laptop deals all year round. AO really specialises in home electrics though and it's a fantastic time of year to upgrade with a new fridge, freezer, washing machine, kettle, microwave and the like.
Once a little sales-shy, John Lewis is starting to embrace the winter sales period, and we saw some outstanding deals on speakers, appliances, and TVs over Black Friday. Why buy from John Lewis? Well, it offers a two year guarantee on a huge selection of items at no extra charge, which is great for peace of mind when buying electrical items.
Argos is one of those retailers who always seem to be having a sale, so you can be sure to find a bargain in January. Annoyingly, much of its stock is region-based, but you can check availability by entering your postcode before going through the checkout process. Discounted prices on laptops, TVs, toys and console bundles are still well worth a look.
CDKeys.com is one of the cheapest places on the net for PC games all year round and offer fantastic prices followed by instant delivery of the code, with major platforms like Steam, uPlay, Origins and Battlenet supported. It's not all about the PC crowd though as CDKeys have some of the best deals going on PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold memberships too.
Mobiles.co.uk is taking advantage of the growing trend to buy and upgrade phone contracts online rather than on the high street. We saw some great mobile phone deals on Black Friday so you can expect more of the same from this trusted mobile phone seller - and we've seen a couple of great iPhone / Samsung Galaxy deals this year if you're thinking of an upgrade.
Carphone Warehouse is an established high street retailer and is also one of the best online phone retailers now. We'll pick out the best mobile phone deals, whether they're standalone smartphones, contract phones, voucher codes or whatever else looks like a great mobile deal to us.
As predicted, the January sales have got off to an early start, with lots of retailers already slashing prices and extending their best Boxing Day deals.
This year, most big retailers launched their sales straight after Christmas, with not many holding back for the traditional January sales – that means more time to shop the sales.
That doesn't mean you won't find any good tech deals after January 1; it's just that some of the best discounts were released on Boxing Day. Many of these deals are still going, too.
These days, January sales are more of a continuation of the remaining Boxing Day deals so many stores have simply rebranded to 'January sales' over the last few days.
It makes sense when you think about it – given that many workplaces are off until around January 2, retailers are keen to show you the best deals as soon as possible while you've got time off at home rather than try to push deals on you while you're heading back to work or nursing that awful New Year's Day hangover.
